Community Outreach

A commitment to women’s
health beyond her practice.

Beyond her specialist practice, Dr Jay Moodley is deeply committed to improving women’s health and access to quality care across Northern KwaZulu-Natal. Her outreach work spans over a decade of initiatives designed to educate, empower and provide essential medical services to women in both urban and rural communities.

Bridging the gap in access to care

Dr Jay extends her expertise beyond the consulting room to reach women in Mtubatuba, Eshowe, and surrounding areas – regions where access to specialist care can be limited.

Through these efforts, she aims to bridge the gap between urban healthcare facilities and rural communities, ensuring that every woman has the opportunity to receive professional, compassionate care close to home.

Annual Free Pap Smear Drive

Since 2014, Dr Jay has led an annual Free Pap Smear Drive. The campaign provides free cervical cancer screening and education to hundreds of women each August, promoting early detection and prevention.

Screenings are hosted at multiple sites including: Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Mall, Empangeni Sanlam Centre, Queen Nandi Regional Hospital, Ngwelezane Hospital, Brackenham and Esikaweni communities, and Mtubatuba.

Each year, new screening locations are added to reach as many women as possible, making life-saving healthcare accessible to all.

Pre-cancer clinic at Queen Nandi Regional Hospital

As a sessional consultant and specialist at Queen Nandi Regional Hospital, Dr Jay has served the regional mother-and-child hospital since 2014. Over the past two years, she established the first and only specialist-driven Colposcopy and Pre-Cancer Clinic in Northern KZN.

The clinic provides expert management of pre-cervical cancer conditions, performing procedures that eradicate precancerous changes before they develop into cervical cancer. Dr Jay also trains junior doctors in these techniques, helping to build local medical capacity.

Community Talks & Lectures

Dr Jay is passionate about education and awareness. She regularly conducts community talks and serves as a lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), sharing her knowledge with both medical students and the broader community to promote women’s health literacy.

A long-time supporter of the Cuppa for CANSA initiative, Dr Jay has frequently served as a guest speaker, advocating for cancer prevention and awareness.

In November 2025, she proudly hosted her own Cuppa for CANSA event – continuing her mission to educate, inspire and support women across Zululand.
